Today we got to hear from the president of the Amy Biehl Foundation. Amy was here in Africa working to help them with the 1994 elections when she was brutally murdered by black activists in August of 1993. Her parents established the Amy Biehl Foundation in 1997 which currently has 5 centers around Cape Town that serve 1800 children each year via after school programs. The programs educate the children about from AIDS prevention and healthy eating to ballet and music. Unfortunately, their funding has been seriously reduced in the past 10 years so they rely on individual donations and profits from selling “Amy’s” wine and bread as well as the bracelets pictured. We all got the chance to buy the bracelets today for $4 so I’m sure a lot of you all will be getting them as gifts! Here is the website if you want to check out more of the work the foundation is doing. http://www.amybiehl.co.za/
