Yesterday, we were told we had a surprise activity planned for Friday, and we were instructed to show up well-hydrated and wearing workout clothes. Everyone assumed a hike was in store, but little did we know what we were about to get ourselves into...
The activity was hiking Table Mountain, a gorgeous and extremely large landmark in Cape Town. The hike is 2.1 steep kilometers up, and it took a little under 2 hours to complete. “Hiking,” however, doesn’t fully illustrate what we did; trekking up large boulders, sometimes on all fours, gives a better description. At times, I did not think my short legs would make it over the rock in front of me without my feet slipping off. Luckily I was wrong! Needless to say, the hike was tough and exhausting, but the view not only from the top but also throughout the entire hike was well worth it! When the sun was beating down on my face and I was struggling to catch my breath, I would pause for a second, move my stare up from my feet, and admire God’s miraculous creation surrounding me. I do not know where to begin to describe the view. Words and even pictures could never do it justice. As a group of us stood at the edge of the top of the mountain, it seemed like we were staring at the end of the world. It may have been a challenge for me today, but I am very thankful I had the opportunity to witness the beauty of Cape Town.
