Day one at Sir Lowry’s Pass=Success!
Yesterday was such a cool experience. I felt like the kids could hear the bus from a mile away, because when we pulled into the township they were all waiting for us, and chased the bus to where it finally parked. Getting off the bus was an overwhelming experience to say the least, but I loved every second of it. I’ve never seen so many kids in one place! And all they wanted was for you to love on them and give them attention. I wish I had as much energy as they do! The rain was definitely a bit of a distraction, but we didn’t let it slow us down. When we got into the school, we met all of the mothers who were hosting us, and learned a couple of fun songs ( which I loved and will be bringing back to the states). After that we had about an hour of free time to just hang out with the kids. It was awesome! Best work out of my life (besides climbing up Table Mountain of course). We ran around, played rugby, gave piggy-back rides....you name it, we did it. It’s safe to say I made some new best friends yesterday. Later in the afternoon we split up and went to eat dinner with different families within the township. We had one of my personal favorite meals, spaghetti. Mrs. Wilomeana (sp?) cooked for us, and it was great. Then she took us to meet one of her five sisters. Thank goodness we went to her sisters house, because they were having a dance party, and I wouldn’t have wanted to miss that. It is crazy how one of the ways we can relate to the people in Sir Lowry’s pass is through music. They are more up too date on the latest hits than I am! Especially the kids. Wilomeana’s oldest daughter, Kalign (sp?) wants to be a super model when she grows up. She has been is seven pageants, and won them all. Girl power (as Gabe B. would say)! Time definitely went by too quickly yesterday, and I am ready to get back to the township today! I am so excited about what I have already learned from the kids and adults in Sir Lowry’s Pass, and can’t wait to see what the rest of the week will bring.
