Going Away Party

Today was the last day of service in Sir Lowry’s Pass and there are so many different emotions swimming around my head that it’s a little difficult to process everything. I felt sad, happy, loved, and humbled all at the same time, but overall I had a great week. The girls in the picture with me are the girls I hung out with all week. None of them spoke much English. They all could understand most of what I said, but only two could talk back to me, and even that was pretty simple, broken English. At first, I was a little upset by that because I was worried that I would not be able to make a connection with them. It turned out that I could not have been more wrong because these girls showed me that you do not need to talk a lot to for a relationship with someone. We played together and laughed without needing to speak. That just goes to show that body language is so important and something as simple as a smile or a wave can make the biggest difference to someone. That is one thing, among many others, that I will take away from this week: the power of a genuine smile. My girls and I connected through our smiles, and had an amazing time together this week. I am going to miss them so much. I cannot wait to go back to the township in a week and a half and see them again!
