Marjie and I at the Trumpet Tree in Stellenbosch!
After an exhausting, yet fun-filled service week, almost all 100 of us headed off to Stellenbosch, which is about an hour from Cape Town. It is where the University of Stellenbosch is located and a small college town (aka the Athens of Cape Town). We checked into a hostel that the group last year stayed in called the Stumble Inn (hence my title). After getting situated, Ish picked us up to take us to the Speir Winery, where we did a wine tour/tasting. We learned a lot about the aging process of the wine and how the taste is affected over the years.
After the wine tastings we hurried back to the Stumble Inn to prepare for the night. Eating dinner at a Lebanese restaurant was a tad bit questionable but ended up being fine. The feel of the town was very European, with quaint little bistros and shops. The night life in Stellenbosch was different in Cape Town, but in a good way. It was a much younger feel. It was really interesting to be out and be able to talk with the other students our age from the University. We also ran into some kids from the UGA in Stellenbosch program while there.
After a freezing night in the Stumble Inn (with no sheets, I might add), we were all eager to eat! We ended up eating a cute little restaurant called Trumpet Tree, which apparently had really good coffee though I wouldn’t know (coffee makes me too hyper). We scurried off to the bus at noon and headed home, where we crashed and began packing for adventure week!!
